“If you need help learning (not just horses) LifeSkills this would be the place for you.”

“Working with horses helped me by giving me confidence and showing me that everything in the world isn’t bad. They give you trust and a bond”

Billy developed a love of horses through watching films on the television. He realised that all his favourite movies had something in common – horses. He wanted to learn to ride just like that.

He came to the Fortune College after gaining some riding experience. When he arrived he couldn’t cope with any situation where there were a lot of people as he found them threatening and reading body language difficult. Even the supermarket was overwhelming for him.

Despite starting at the College two months late due to funding problems, Billy has achieved everything he has set out to and more. Not only can he now manage the Supermarket but he can get on a train and a tube by himself. He has learnt to drive, gained a green belt in Karate, been to gigs, and met a girlfriend. All of this is on top of passing his maths and English Level One and his Further Education Through Horsemanship course.

KEY OUTCOMES

He is leaving The Fortune College after three years to take up an assisted living place. He is also hoping to take up a paid apprenticeship which he is really excited about.

Billy says that The Fortune College has taught him to manage his emotions, control his nerves and gain confidence through the teaching with horses. His favourite horse is Eric who he shall miss very much.
